Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-residue N-acetylated peptide encoded by TMSB4X (UniProt P62328, chain 2-44). UniProt describes it as binding and sequestering actin monomers (G-actin), which inhibits actin polymerisation. The synthetic form has the INN timbetasin; ChEMBL lists timbetasin acetate (RGN-259) at phase 3 for dry eye. FDA granted orphan designations for epidermolysis bullosa (2004) and neurotrophic keratopathy (2013); no product is approved.
